CASA BALEIA | MACHANGULO

There are plenty of activities available including deep sea fishing, fishing from the beach, long walks along the beautiful peninsula, surfing, paddleboarding, scuba diving and trips to the adjacent elephant reserve.

Tours of the turtle nest sights, the prime turtle hatching season is December - March.

Tours of the local villages, schools and hospitals to explore the surrounding areas and meet the local people.

Whale spotting during migration of the humpback whales - the season is from June - December.

DAY SAFARI

Casa Baleia is located very near to Maputo Elephant Reserve. Day trips into the reserve are an amazing way to see the natural beauty and wildlife of the surrounding area. Animals that live in the reserve include: giraffes, zebras, hippos, cheetah, elephants, antelopes and a variety of bird species. Lunch is served next to a lake. Drive back watching the sun set over beautiful African plains.

BIRD WATCHING

An incredibly rich bird life surrounds the Machangulo Reserve all year round. From the Great White Pelicans to the majestic African Fish Eagle, the area provides ample opportunity for excellent birding.

SNORKELLING

This is a very popular activity. The Inhaca Island Marine reserve has 2 km of pristine snorkelling and the Picnic Snorkel on the island is highly recommended, this is a short drive from Casa Baleia.

WHALE SPOTTING

The whale spotting season is from June - December, when the Humpback whales migrate from Antartica to Africa. The whales migrate to cold waters in high latitudes for feeding, before moving on to warmer waters for mating and giving birth. You will be able to see the whales from the deck of the house, as well as dolphins. Boat trips can be arranged to get up closer to these beautiful creatures.

FISHING

Casa Baleia is situated in the midst of many world class fishing locations. These waters are rich with fish, such as Spanish Mackerel, Tuna, Wahoo and Mahimahi.

SCUBA DIVING

The diving in this area is great for either beginners or experienced divers, you will hardly see another sole on your dive, making this a peaceful and private experience. Due to the abundance of marine life in the area you will see a range of marine life. This is an experience you will not forget.

SURFING / KITE SURFING

Casa Baleia is located just metres from Mucumbo point which is the best surfing spot in Machangulo. The house has a number of surfboards. Surfing lessons can also be arranged on request. The wonderful coastal winds also make it an exceptional spot for kite surfing.
